A series of highly detailed, romantic landscapes painted on silver leaf. Continuing my interest in the extremities of landscape, I focus on the soft northern light of winter and try to find uncanny beauty in the stillness of frozen landscapes. These paintings of enigmatic ‘northern’ places have been painted from memory and photographic observation in my Sydney studio. Their shimmering surfaces and fine detail describe places of memory that flip between north and south: places of strange beauty that are simultaneously real and fictive.
